It’s been awhile since I announced anything on here, but the truth is I never stopped creating ? I went underground, to be sure, and stopped streaming and playing live for awhile. But I had some technical problems with my streaming setup that made it difficult to stream without significant capital investment. Enter: NFT.

NFT is the Magical Key to the Metaverse

Despite taking a break from public life, I have still been grinding in the studio. I’ve also been learning the arcane art of minting music NFTs to unleash a torrential storm of dope new content. Content that you can own, trade, and maybe in the future rent out or even use as collateral for loans.

Helloooo Metaverse and NFT!
I’d hodl your NFT any time, wink

In addition, I am researching ways of providing exclusive perks by holding my NFTs in your wallet. For example, if you hold a “Ryan Cohen’s Wild Ride” NFT, you’d unlock a NFT-holder only page. That page gives you download access to the song at any time in any format you choose (FLAC, WAV, MP3-320). Holding the special “shiny” version of the NFT would earn access to a special “member’s only” page. Keep in mind, this is all in the research phases, so it may be awhile before implementation.

Some (not all) of my NFTs will additionally represent the copyright associated with my music, giving you the ability to listen to, remix, combine, or otherwise repurpose my music and yes… release and monetize it in any form you choose. These special edition 1/1 “rightshodlers” editions of my NFTs would give you the explicit legal right to use my work as long as you share 50% of the revenue from said work with me (DJ Robzilla).

A New Frontier

I’m still fleshing all this out in my head but I’m really excited to be able to offer these new services to y’all. And at a much cheaper cost to myself than if I didn’t use NFTs. People often ask, “What is the use case of NFTs even?” And for me as a musician the answer is clear. Streaming services take a huge cut of streaming revenue, likewise for iTunes and Bandcamp.

View of the NFT Metaverse
A new fantastic point of view

By releasing these songs as NFTs I am able to save a ton of money on paying for expensive middlemen. And when you trade my NFTs on public marketplaces, I automatically get a cut of said revenue. This is a win-win. You get a tradeable asset and can support my music by selling your copy if you ever want extra cash.

And since I’m saving all that money, I can pass on the savings and still make just as much from my art as before. I don’t want to be one of these people selling their music for 1 MILLION DOLLARS or something ridiculous like that. If you think it’s worth that much go ahead and resell it for that much. But I’ll price my initial releases closer to what you would expect to pay on iTunes for a song.

More Than Fancy, Expensive JPEGs

NFTs are so much more than fancy expensive JPEGs. They enable a host of new use cases that we as artists are only just tapping the surface of. As such, I am excited to release four proof of concept NFT Interactive Music Players that hold 1-2 songs each. Each player is a limited run of various rarities listed below.
